Several state governments have already banned the sale and manufacture of analogue paneer. The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration recently banned the production, distribution and sale of artificial analogue paneer for one year, citing public health concerns, after laboratory tests found that more than 35% of recent paneer samples in the state had failed quality checks due to vegetable-fat adulteration. Gujarat has also announced a statewide ban on the manufacture, storage, transport, distribution and sale of non-standard analogue paneer, cheese and butter, citing concerns over consumer deception and food safety.
