All India Students’ Association (AISA) National President Neha Bora on Monday (September 14) took a swipe at purported privatisation of education and raised issues related to unemployment, recruitment delays and students’ rights at a student gathering.
Addressing the ‘Gen-Z Mahajutan Yatra’ as part of the organisation’s ‘Gen Z Rising’ campaign, Bora held governments accountable for failing to tackle issues surrounding education and employment, according to PTI.
She observed that student and youth movements across India exhibit mounting dissatisfaction with education and employment systems, and sought accountability from university administrations as well as state and central governments.
Bora said that students in Uttar Pradesh were highlighting issues related to scholarships, insufficient hostel facilities, lack of women’s hostels and budget cuts affecting infrastructure in state-run universities.
AISA Flags Teacher Recruitment Delays Ahead Of UP Assembly Polls
She raised concerns among competitive exam aspirants and alleged delays in teacher recruitment in the state affecting thousands.
“Recruitment has not taken place in Uttar Pradesh for a long time. The backlog has remained since 2018,” she said, repeating the demand for notification of at least 60,000 posts and clearance of the recruitment backlog, according to PTI.
Bora also affirmed support for TGT and PGT aspirants seeking examinations under previous rules and patterns.
The AISA’s Uttar Pradesh chapter had announced the ‘Gen-Z Mahajutan Yatra’ in August as part of its nationwide ‘Gen Z Rising’ campaign to flag issues concerning education, employment and social justice.
On Saturday, Bora in Varanasi asked the UP government to clear the recruitment backlog pending since 2018 and notify at least 60,000 posts. Whereas in Azamgarh, she charged the government with “selling education” via the National Education Policy 2020 and demanded better infrastructure and more teachers in government schools on Sunday.
The All India Students’ Association’s campaign comes ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, scheduled for early next year.
