The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) launched its manifesto for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections 2026-27 on Monday, promising affordable housing, metro concession passes, menstrual leave and a slate of student-welfare measures ahead of the September 18 polls.
Releasing the document, NSUI National President Vinod Jakhar said the manifesto reflected “the aspirations and concerns of Delhi University students” and offered “concrete solutions rather than empty promises,” calling for a university system that is “transparent, affordable, inclusive and accountable.” The party’s four DUSU candidates: presidential nominee Vijay Shankar Meena, vice-presidential candidate Vir Chatrath, secretary candidate Namrata Chaudhary and joint secretary candidate Gopal Choudhary were also present.
19-Point Agenda Targets Fees, Safety, Mental Health
The manifesto’s promises include affordable PG housing through a verified DU rental portal, subsidised metro passes, and a five-day Monday-to-Friday class schedule. It also pledges two days of menstrual leave per month for women students and reforms to the four-year undergraduate structure under the National Education Policy.
Further commitments cover 24×7 libraries and subsidised canteens, expanded mental-health counselling, more SC/ST scholarships, upgraded sports facilities, campus Wi-Fi, free exam rechecking, safe drinking water and fee-affordability measures, alongside legal-awareness camps, zero tolerance for sexual harassment and gender-sensitisation drives.
“Kya Hua Tera Waada?” Campaign Hits Administration
Alongside the manifesto, NSUI released a campaign visual titled “Kya Hua Tera Waada?”, questioning the university administration over hostel shortages, the pending metro-concession demand, inadequate campus facilities, curbs on student dissent and the treatment of protesting students. NSUI said the campaign aimed to keep students’ democratic rights, safety and dignity central to campus governance.
Election Set for September 18
DU’s final candidate list has seven contenders for president, five for vice-president and four each for secretary and joint secretary . NSUI’s chief rival ABVP has fielded Yash Dabas for president, while the Left’s AISA-SFI alliance is backing Ananya Raturi . Voting takes place September 18, with day-class polling from 8:30 am to 1 pm and evening-class polling from 3 pm to 7:30 pm.
