The study, called HPTN 084, looked at the long-acting injectable cabotegravir, also called CAB-LA and compared it with a daily combination of two HIV medicines, tenofovir disoproxil fumarate and emtricitabine (TDF-FTC). Both were being used as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), the medication taken by people who do not have HIV to reduce their risk of acquiring the virus.
