Left and right-wing student organisations have opposed the draft, calling the proposed restrictions undemocratic. Opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan also criticised the move as anti-democratic. University Vice-Chancellor Mohanan Kunnummal, however, said the guidelines are only a draft and not final, and that they were prepared in response to directions from the Kerala High Court.
