A 30-year-old woman was allegedly killed and beheaded by her husband while she was sleeping at their rented house in Hardoi’s Islamnagar Tilia locality on Wednesday, police said.
The accused, identified as Parvez, allegedly slit his wife Nagma’s throat with a knife before walking into the police station and telling officers that he had killed his wife.
According to police, the incident took place around 1:30 am. Nagma was sleeping inside the house when Parvez allegedly attacked her with a knife. After the murder, he locked the house and went straight to Kotwali city police station.
When Parvez told police that he had killed his wife, a police team immediately reached the house. Officers found Nagma’s body inside the room, with her head allegedly severed from her body.
The body was taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination. Parvez was detained and is being questioned.
Nagma and Parvez had been living in a rented house owned by a man named Mehtab for around one-and-a-half months. They were originally residents of the Vetganj locality. Parvez worked as a four-wheeler driver at a taxi stand.
Police said Parvez allegedly suspected that Nagma was having an affair with another man. The couple reportedly had frequent arguments over his suspicion, including Nagma’s phone conversations.
The couple had been married for around 12 years. Police said Parvez was also involved in a dispute with his family. After a family property division, he allegedly sold his house and moved into the rented accommodation with Nagma.
Based on a complaint filed by Nagma’s sister Shabbo, police have registered a murder case against Parvez.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing, including the alleged marital dispute and Parvez’s suspicion about his wife’s relationship with another man.
Statements from Nagma’s mother Zaida, sister Shabbo and Hardoi East ASP Subodh Gautam are also expected to provide further details about the case.
Further investigation is underway.
