The former Iceland President’s remarks come at a time when the vegetarian spread served at PM Modi’s gala dinner for BRICS leaders has triggered a political controversy in India. The controversy erupted after Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi shared a photograph of a plate of chole bhature on X, saying, “For the record: 80% of Indians are non-vegetarian. Indian non-vegetarian food is delicious, as are my sister’s chole bhature.”
