The findings revealed certain differences between men and women. Women were more likely than men to be diagnosed with a mental health condition, including anxiety, depression or somatoform disorders, after developing type 2 diabetes. This was seen in 8.1% of women compared with 5.3% of men. The study stated, “In comparison, across all the age groups, men had a higher probability of being diagnosed with a CVD/ESRD than women. Previous studies have found that women with T2D present higher proportion of mental health conditions than men with T2D, particularly in disorders such as depression and anxiety, suggesting a gender-specific vulnerability.”
