India is celebrating its 80th Independence Day today (August 15). On this day in 1947, the country gained freedom and began a new chapter. Since India was ruled by the British, the country was no stranger to cricket. India made their Test debut against England at Lord’s in 1932. India played their first Test after independence against Australia Down Under. 72 years after Independence, India finally registered a win on the special day. Virat Kohli-led India famously defeated West Indies in the third and final ODI to clinch the series 2-0 in 2019. The match started on the evening of August 14 and ended in the wee hours of August 15, marking India’s first-ever win on Independence Day.
