Cloudy skies and light rain greeted Delhi residents on Tuesday (August 11) as the national capital recorded its 10th consecutive day of satisfactory air quality, while its rainfall total for August crossed the monthly average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
This comes after Delhi recorded 230.5 mm of rainfall in the first 10 days of August till 8.30 am Monday. Another 4 mm was recorded between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, taking the month’s total to 234.5 mm — already above the monthly average of 233.1 mm.
Delhi Weather Today: Yellow Alert, More Rain Likely
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Tuesday, forecasting generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain at most places and moderate rainfall at a few locations.
Temperatures are likely to remain between 23°C and 25°C in the morning, while the maximum is expected to settle around 33°C to 35°C. A spell of moderate rain is possible from the early morning to noon, followed by another spell of very light to light rain towards the evening and night.
Residents should be prepared for wet roads and possible waterlogging in low-lying areas during heavier spells. Commuters are advised to check traffic conditions before leaving.
Mayur Vihar Records Highest Rainfall
Mayur Vihar recorded the highest rainfall on Monday at 37 mm, followed by Mungeshpur at 21 mm, Pusa at 4 mm and Narayana at 3 mm, the IMD said.
At Safdarjung, the city’s base weather station, 4 mm of rain was recorded between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm. Lodhi Road received 4.8 mm, while the Ridge recorded 6.8 mm. Palam received trace rainfall and Ayanagar recorded no rain during the period.
The maximum temperature at Safdarjung settled at 35.4°C, 1.2 degrees above normal, while the minimum was 27.6°C, 0.6 degrees above normal.
Delhi AQI Satisfactory For 10th Straight Day
Delhi’s 24-hour average AQI stood at 89 at 4 pm on Monday, keeping the city’s air quality in the satisfactory category for the 10th consecutive day.
The city has maintained satisfactory air quality on every day of August so far, a pattern last seen during the first 10 days of August 2024.
According to the CPCB, an AQI between 51 and 100 is considered satisfactory. Continued rainfall is likely to provide some relief from humidity, although intense spells could trigger waterlogging and traffic disruptions across the capital.
