New Delhi: The Centre has reduced the time given to social media platforms to remove sensitive online content from 24 hours to two hours, according to an official statement issued on Thursday. The change is part of amendments made to the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, on February 10, 2026. The amendments aim to strengthen the rules for dealing with harms caused by synthetically generated information (SGI), including deepfakes and AI-generated content.
