District administrations in Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, Thrissur, Idukki, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta announced a holiday for schools, colleges and other educational institutions as a precautionary measure. Officials said the decision was taken in view of the ongoing rain and the possibility of further heavy showers.
