Coimbatore: At least five people were killed in a devastating road accident near Nallampalli Junction on the Pollachi–Palani National Highway after a speeding car crashed into a stationary lorry, police said.
Four of the victims belonged to the same family from Gurubampalayam near Madukkarai in Coimbatore district. They were identified as Kanagaraj, his wife Narmada, and their two daughters, Aarthi and Poorani.
Police are yet to establish the identity of the fifth victim. Officials are investigating whether the deceased was the driver of the car or another occupant travelling in the vehicle.
The impact of the collision was severe, killing all five occupants. Police reached the spot soon after the accident, shifted the bodies for post-mortem examination and launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the crash. Further details are awaited.
