The Directive Principles of State Policy further reinforce this responsibility and require governments at both the Union and State levels to develop policies, infrastructure, and financing mechanisms that ensure equitable, affordable, and quality healthcare for all citizens. The National Health Policy (NHP) 2017 places Universal Health Coverage (UHC) at the centre of India’s health system reforms, to ensure that all citizens have access to quality promotive, preventive, curative, rehabilitative, and palliative healthcare services without suffering financial hardship. Despite all such provisions, the growing negative perception against the healthcare sector over the recent past raises serious questions. It assumed an alarming proportion during the pandemic.
