The new BMW X5 has hit the global shores in its fifth-generation guise, and what has truly made it stand out is the availability of five distinct powertrain options. Buyers have the freedom to choose between petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid, battery-electric, and even hydrogen fuel-cell technology. This is a huge milestone for the German marque as not only does it make the X5 the most versatile SUV in its lineup, but it also expands the brand’s approach towards a multi-energy strategy while incorporating technologies from BMW’s Neue Klasse platform. The new X5 is scheduled to enter production in August 2026, with deliveries of combustion-engine models beginning later in the year, while electric and plug-in hybrid versions will follow in early 2027. The launch of the SUV in India is yet to be confirmed.
