The bad cop arrived in counterpoint. In an interview with the New York Times, Vance dismissed what he called Israel’s “freakout” over the US-Iran memorandum as odd, argued it stemmed from misplaced mistrust, and suggested Israel leans too heavily on military force. He warned that “you can’t kill your way” out of conflict. From the White House podium, he pressed Israel to respect a peace process he framed as good for the entire region, and elsewhere delivered the sharpest line of all: anyone in Israel who thinks their biggest problem is the US president needs to wake up to the reality their country is in.
