Cody Rhodes finally finished his story by defeating Roman Reigns in the main event of Wrestlemania 40. He retained the title till Wrestlemania 41, where he lost it to John Cena. He defeated Cena at Summerslam to regain the title. Cody dropped the title to Drew McIntyre early in 2026, but regained on Smackdown after the Elimination Chamber.
