New Delhi: The NEET UG 2026 Paper Leak case has triggered massive controversy across India, with students, parents, and political parties demanding a transparent investigation into claims that the medical entrance examination paper was leaked. The case has raised serious concerns over the integrity of one of the country’s most competitive exams, conducted for admission to undergraduate medical courses.

Protests also erupted in the national capital against the paper leak. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the case to probe all possible links related to the case.

Here Are The Latest Developments:

Six Arrested:

The CBI on Wednesday arrested six people in connection with the case. As part of the investigation, the federal agency carried out searches at multiple locations across the country. The agency said the case was registered on May 12, 2026, after receiving a written complaint from the Department of Higher Education under the Union Ministry of Education.

According to the CBI, the FIR includes charges related to criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust, and provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.

Out of the six people arrested, five have been identified as:

Shubham Khairnar from Nashik

Yash Yadav from Gurugram

Mangilal Biwal from Jaipur

Vikas Biwal from Jaipur

Dinesh Biwal from Jaipur.

Meanwhile, the CBI has not officially confirmed the arrest of the sixth person, identified as Dhananjay Lokhande, from Maharashtra. He was produced in court by the CBI.

Role of the Arrested Accused:

Sources told Times Now that, during its investigation, the probe agency. found that Mangilal Biwal and Dinesh are brothers and Vikas Biwal is Dinesh’s son. He is preparing for NEET and lives in Sikar.

Dinesh Biwal had allegedly purchased the question paper on April 26-27 for approximately Rs 30 lakh for Vikas. The CBI is also probing this angle. Later, they allegedly sold the same question paper in soft-copy form to other students in Sikar. The probe has further revealed that four members of their family have been selected in NEET over the past few years, claimed the sources. Shubham, another accused in the case, received the guess paper from Pune. Meanwhile, Yadav received the guess paper from Shubham. The role of Dhanjay is still under investigation.

Pune Woman Handed Over to CBI

Meanwhile, Pune Police detained a woman linked to the case from the Katraj area and later handed her over to the CBI for further investigation. Pune DCP Vivek Masal said that the police had received certain inputs in connection with the NEET paper leak case. Acting on those inputs, the investigation team traced a woman linked to the matter and detained her from the Katraj area of Pune.

Speaking about her role, DCP Masal said that the woman was found to be in contact with the accused whose details had surfaced a day earlier. Based on that lead, the police started probing her involvement and questioned her extensively. During the interrogation, officials reportedly came across several suspicious details. Following this, she was handed over to the CBI for further and detailed investigation. The woman has been identified as Manisha Sanjay Waghmare.

Congress Alleges BJP Link in the Case:

The Congress alleged that Dinesh Biwal has links with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot slammed the BJP, alleging that its office bearer was involved in the alleged paper leak.

“This has been a serious matter, and the BJP leader who has been caught—they say five members of his family already had jobs arranged beforehand. This is a subject for investigation,” Gehlot said in his X post.

“They are unnecessarily tarnishing the Congress government’s reputation, but they themselves have been exposed—in 2024, 2025, 2026, NEET papers have leaked three times. Can you explain the reason? That’s why it’s a very serious issue; we can only imagine what the 22 lakh children must be going through. It’s an extremely serious case, no matter how much the SOG tries to whitewash it—why didn’t the SOG file the FIR? They need to answer that,” he added.

The BJP has not yet responded to these allegations.

On Tuesday the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination held on May 3 following allegations of a paper leak. Sources said the courier staffer allegedly enabled around 30 minutes of unauthorised access to the exam trunks. Investigators suspect the accused used portable high-definition scanners during this period to create digital copies of the question paper.

Officials believe nearly 120 chemistry questions may have been leaked around 42 hours before the examination, giving solver gangs enough time to prepare and circulate answers across different states.

Investigators suspect the leaked material was circulated through encrypted Telegram channels and groups instead of normal communication methods.
