Indira Ekadashi falls on the 11th day of Krishna Paksha, the waning moon fortnight, which is in the month of Ashwin as per the Purnimanta calendar (Bhadrapada in the Amanta calendar). This coincides with Pitru Paksha, the 16-day period when Hindus perform shraddha, tarpan and pind daan for their forefathers.
