In another incident highlighting concerns over women’s safety in the country, a 20-year-old man was allegedly caught harassing a woman at a mall in Gujarat’s Surat. The incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera, which showed the man following the woman as she appeared uncomfortable.
The incident took place at AR Mall in Mota Varachha, Surat.
Acting on the CCTV footage, Uttaran police launched an investigation and arrested the 20-year-old man in connection with the case.
The footage showed the woman confronting the man, after which he stopped following her, only for him to turn back after a while and allegedly follow her again.
According to the police, the young man allegedly engaged in unwanted and inappropriate behaviour towards the woman. Following the incident, police examined the CCTV footage and conducted a technical investigation to identify the accused.
The accused has been identified as 20-year-old Bhoutik Vaghela. The police investigation found that he works in ‘game design’ at an ‘IT park’ located in the Mota Varachha area.
Based on the CCTV footage and the technical investigation, the Uttaran police team arrested Vaghela and initiated legal proceedings against him. Further questioning and investigation are reportedly underway.
The incident has once again brought attention to the role of CCTV surveillance and police response in addressing safety concerns for women in public places.
In a separate incident, a government school teacher in Rajkot was arrested after a girl’s mother alleged that he sexually abused her daughter over a period of around four months.
The girl’s mother lodged a complaint with Rajkot Taluka police, following which a case was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to the complaint, the girl studied in a government school in Rajkot from Classes 6 to 8, where the accused taught mathematics. From January 2026, he allegedly made sexual advances towards her when she was alone in the classroom. When she objected, he allegedly threatened to fail her in mathematics.
