For stroke, researchers identified 9 eligible studies and included 6 in their meta-analysis. The resulting hazard ratio was 1.26, with a 95% confidence interval of 1.05 to 1.53. The researchers noted that the strength of the association varied considerably between individual studies. The findings also pointed towards a connection between insomnia and brain health. Several of the systematic reviews assessed in the research found an association between insomnia and dementia, with the evidence appearing more consistent for Alzheimer’s disease. Findings for vascular dementia, however, were mixed.
