Canadian-Haitian author Thélyson Orélien, 38, recently won the Prix du Roman Fnac for ‘C’était ça ou mourir’ (‘It Was Either That or Die’). On September 25, however, the Académie Goncourt removed the novel from its selection following allegations surrounding AI use and separate claims of plagiarism concerning Orélien’s earlier writing. Orélien has strongly denied using AI to write the novel.
