As vital to the constitutional provisions, social scientists, activist groups, and large sections of public intellectuals endorse continuing reservation until and unless caste discrimination ends. On the contrary, many have found problems with reservation as they fear that its mechanism compromises merit and works against the principle of equality. Hence, the policy should be abolished and, if at all to be continued, then instead of caste, class should be the basis for determining the criteria.
