Missed in February, Chased in September: ECI Blinks On Goa's 97 Voters

missed in february, chased in september: eci blinks on goa's 97 voters

The Office of the Goa Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Thursday issued a clarification after opposition parties raised concerns over reports that 97 voters, who had been found eligible by ground-level election officials, were not included in the final electoral roll published in February 2026 following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

Issuing a statement in connection with the matter, the Goa CEO wrote, “The 97 cases not included in the Final Roll published in February 2026 were separately processed through house-to-house visits by BLOS for completion of Form 6. Many have since been enrolled, while the remaining cases are being processed.”

‘No Eligible Elector Will Be Left Behind’

In its statement, the Goa CEO’s office reiterated that “no eligible elector will be left behind.” The clarification came hours after the Opposition criticised the Election Commission over the reported exclusion of the 97 voters from the final electoral roll.

The development came after The Indian Express, in its report, alleged that 97 Goa voters who were found eligible for inclusion in the 2026 final electoral roll by local Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) were left out because the Election Commission’s centralised ECINet system, controlled by its IT division in Delhi, did not allow the EROs to reverse earlier deletion decisions.

It was reported that the issue was not resolved despite Goa Chief Electoral Officer, Sanjay Goel, sending eight emails in seven days seeking a rollback facility, and the Commission’s Deputy Election Commissioner directing the IT division to enable the correction; the facility was allegedly not provided before the final roll was published.

Notably, the issue gained attention when the Election Commission is already under the spotlight over another report that claims that the two Election Commissioners, Vivek Joshi and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, had raised objections to decisions taken under Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, including those related to the SIR process.
