Russia may be moving towards formally annexing Georgia’s breakaway region of South Ossetia, according to Paul Goble, a former CIA analyst and Senior Associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Speaking to TVP World after a presidential election was held in the Russian-backed territory, Goble said the vote could be part of a broader effort by Moscow to prepare the ground for annexation.
