Doolla joined IIT Bombay’s Department of Energy Science and Engineering in 2009. An electrical engineer by training, his work centred on power systems, smart grids, microgrids and the integration of renewable energy, fields that sit close to the heart of India’s clean-energy ambitions. Across more than a decade at the institute, he built a reputation as a serious scholar and a dedicated teacher. His teaching, in particular, was repeatedly recognised, most notably with the Prof. S. P. Sukhatme Excellence in Teaching Award in 2021 and an earlier Excellence in Teaching Award from his department in 2017, alongside research honours such as a best paper award at the IEEE Texas Power and Energy Conference and the Bhaskara Advanced Solar Energy Fellowship.
