Ilaiyaraaja, often hailed by music aficionados, as one of the greatest music composers has reached another landmark in his extraordinary five-decade career. The legendary composer, fondly known as the Maestro, has completed 50 years in Indian cinema, with his music spanning more than 1,000 films across nine languages. Now, his golden jubilee celebrations have gained an international mark with Marathi thriller Gondhal being selected as India’s official entry for the International Feature Film category at the Oscars 2027. Directed by Santosh Davakhar, the film features music composed by Ilaiyaraaja, marking the first time a film featuring his music has been chosen as India’s Oscar entry.
