The US House of Representatives has advanced a bill that would give President Donald Trump the authority to impose tariffs of up to 100 per cent on countries, including India, that continue to buy oil and gas from Russia, while also extending sanctions on Iran. The Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 cleared a key procedural hurdle on Tuesday evening in a 214-211 vote, after two Democrats broke ranks to back the measure alongside Republicans. The vote caught House Democratic leadership off guard.
