Promising Heart Drug Pelacarsen Fails Major Trial – Here's What Went Wrong

The Phase 3 trial, known as Lp(a)HORIZON, enrolled 8,323 people with established cardiovascular disease and elevated Lp(a). Participants received monthly injections of either pelacarsen or a placebo and were followed for about seven years. Researchers assessed a combination of major cardiovascular outcomes, including cardiovascular death, non-fatal heart attack, non-fatal stroke, and emergency procedures to restore blood flow to blocked arteries.
