Music, old Bollywood memories, dancing and a short break from routine came together as 80 senior citizens from Delhi travelled to Chandigarh and Zirakpur for GoldenAgers’ fifth World Senior Citizen Day celebration.
The three-day, two-night trip was held from August 20 to 22, 2026. The group travelled from Delhi in two AC luxury Volvo buses. The journey itself became part of the experience, with Antakshari inside the buses and a breakfast stop at Murthal before everyone continued towards the hotel.
On arrival, the guests were welcomed with dhol and garlands. The first evening was kept fairly relaxed, with hi-tea and live singing accompanied by a guitarist. It gave the participants time to settle in, talk to each other and enjoy the evening before the busier second day.
The next morning, the group visited two familiar Chandigarh landmarks, the Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake. After returning to the hotel, preparations began for the main celebration of the trip.
The evening had a Retro Bollywood theme, and that became the biggest attraction of the programme. Many of the senior citizens came dressed in outfits inspired by actors and actresses from older Hindi films. Some had also prepared dance performances based on their favourite stars.
The room had a very different energy by then. There was a selfie corner with props, a cake-cutting ceremony, games, quizzes and musical entertainment. Gifts were given to winners during the activities.
Later, the DJ session brought almost everyone closer to the dance floor. Some guests joined immediately, while others followed after watching for a while. The performances, music and costumes made the evening feel more like a reunion and celebration than a formal Senior Citizens Day programme.
Every participant also received a surprise gift at the end of the evening.
Mr Moneek Mehra and Ms Nidhi Mehra, Directors of GoldenAgers, were present through the programme and personally interacted with the guests. Both were closely involved in the hospitality and arrangements during the trip.
On August 22, the group checked out and began the journey back to Delhi, with lunch arranged on the way.
GoldenAgers is the flagship senior travel brand of Indiafly Golden Tours Pvt Ltd. The annual Senior Citizen Day celebration has now completed five editions.
For this year’s group, the Retro Bollywood evening was clearly the high point. It gave the participants a chance not just to watch an event, but to dress up, perform, dance and enjoy the occasion on their own terms.
