tallahassee shooting reports: what happened at governor square mall | what we know

The Tallahassee Police Department is investigating a shooting reported at Governor’s Square Mall in Tallahassee, Florida, on Saturday afternoon.

The shooting occurred near the underground parking lot at Dillard’s at around 3 PM, according to a TPD watch commander who spoke to the Tallahassee Democrat. A large police presence was reported at the shopping center at 1500 Apalachee Pkwy.

The watch commander said it did not appear that anyone was injured, although the investigation was still in its early stages. Dillard’s was shut down at the time, while a Democrat photographer reported that the parking garage had been taped off.

Officers could reportedly be heard telling people that a shooting had occurred inside.

Suspect Reportedly Spotted As Police Investigate

TPD’s online crime map noted that shots were fired and that a suspect was spotted. It was not immediately clear whether anyone had been taken into custody.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with a large number of police vehicles, people running out of the store and cars slowly passing through the area.

One person also reported the incident on Facebook, saying there had been gunshots at the mall. What sounded like a fire alarm could be heard in the background as the witness said officials were evacuating the mall.

Earlier, another Facebook user, Kayla Palmer, said she was inside the mall when people ran from Dillard’s saying “shooter.” Palmer said she ran into an American Eagle dressing room and heard two gunshots.

The mall was temporarily locked down but later resumed operations. There were reportedly no known injuries as the investigation continued.
