The man eventually came within about three feet of the closest officer. He then raised his arm and extended a knife towards the officer, prompting another officer to fire. Police said the officer fired one shot, striking the man. Officers brought him down from the cables and administered first aid before he was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
