After that, the cornerback spent three seasons in Detroit. He was waived by the Lions during their 2012 roster cuts; however, he returned later that season. From 2009 to 2012, Smith played in 42 games over the course of four NFL seasons, recording 88 tackles and eight interceptions. In 2010, he set a team record for Detroit with five interceptions.
