What’s in a Name
The name Lake Ontario didn’t come out of nowhere. According to the Center for Great Lakes Literacy, it traces back to the Iroquoian word “oniatarí:io,” which translates to “lake of shining waters.” That history is now getting overwritten, at least as far as the U.S. government is concerned, by Trump’s new branding.
