Azim Premji Foundation has announced the launch of the Azim Premji Scholarship for Delhi (NCT) to offer support to up to 20,000 girls in Delhi NCT to continue their higher education. Over 1.9 lakh girls have received the Azim Premji Scholarship since 2024.

The Azim Premji Scholarship application process is completely online and free for all the girl students. Those interested should submit their applications only through the official Azim Premji Foundation website.

Scholarship Offers Rs 30,000 Annual Support

Each selected student will receive INR 30,000 a year, from the first year of college until they complete their undergraduate degree or diploma, according to the PTI report.

Depending on the course duration, which can range from two to five years, a student can receive up to INR 1.5 lakh, which can be used to pay college fees and meet other education-related expenses.

Eligibility Extended Across 21 States and UTs

Azim Premji Foundation, Delhi State Lead, Nikhil Mathur, and the Chief Communications Officer, Sudheesh Venkatesh, said the scholarship is now open to girls who have completed their schooling in any of 21 States and Union Territories listed below:

  1. Andhra Pradesh
  2. Arunachal Pradesh
  3. Assam
  4. Bihar
  5. Chhattisgarh
  6. Delhi (NCT)
  7. Jharkhand
  8. Karnataka
  9. Madhya Pradesh
  10. Manipur
  11. Meghalaya
  12. Mizoram
  13. Nagaland
  14. Odisha
  15. Puducherry
  16. Rajasthan
  17. Sikkim
  18. Telangana
  19. Tripura
  20. Uttar Pradesh
  21. Uttarakhand

To be eligible, a student must have completed Classes 10 and 12 from a government school in one of these States/UTs and secured admission to the first year of an undergraduate degree or diploma course at a recognised institution in India.

Foundation Aims to Support 5 Lakh Girls Annually

The Foundation aims to support up to 5 lakh girls across India every year. Since most undergraduate programmes last around three years, and students continue to receive the scholarship throughout their course, nearly 15 lakh girls could have an active Azim Premji Scholarship at any given time, as per a PTI report.

The CEO of the foundation, Anurag Behar, said that more than any other demographic group, the girls will have a greater influence on the country’s future and society’s well-being.

He suggested that equitable opportunities for those girls should be ensured in all spheres. He further highlighted that the scholarship aims to directly address some of the barriers that girls continue to face as they pursue their Higher Education.
