Though her parents were averse to her decision to join cinema, Sriya signed Balaji Sakthivel’s directorial debut, Samurai, discreetly. Her first Telugu film, Appudappudu, failed at the box office. She took a year’s break before working with Mammootty in the Malayalam film Black in 2004. Her solo Malayalam film, Bharathchandran I.P.S, was critically acclaimed and commercially successful.
