New Delhi: A 30-year-old Ministry of Defence Assistant Section Officer Nazia Khanam was found hanging at her residence in Dwarka on August 21, following which Delhi Police registered an FIR after her family alleged harassment by her husband and in-laws. Police said they received a PCR call about the incident around 4.21 pm and reached the spot soon after. Her body was taken into police custody and later shifted to the DDU Hospital mortuary.
Nazia had married Mohammad Azam Ali Khan on April 11, 2026, according to police. The couple was living together in Dwarka, and Nazia was posted as an ASO in the Ministry of Defence.
According to her family, Nazia was around three months pregnant. Her relatives have also alleged that she faced harassment and physical abuse from her husband and in-laws. They have demanded an FIR and a CBI probe into her death.
Police said the family initially appeared before the Executive Magistrate on August 21 and submitted statements in which they did not raise any allegation or suspicion against members of Nazia’s matrimonial family.
However, on August 22, Nazia’s parents appeared before the SDM again and submitted another statement and complaint, this time making allegations against her husband and other members of her matrimonial family.
Following the subsequent complaint, police registered FIR No. 214/2026 at Sector 23 police station in Dwarka under Sections 85 and 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The case relates to allegations of cruelty and abetment of suicide.
Nazia’s family has reportedly refused to take her body and is seeking a CBI investigation, saying they do not have confidence in the local police probe.
Police said all necessary legal and procedural steps were taken after receiving the initial PCR call. Further investigation is underway, and appropriate action will be taken based on the evidence and facts that emerge during the probe.
The allegations made by Nazia’s family have not yet been established by the investigation.
