According to sources, United States Ambassador to India Sergio Gor will visit Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, in his first visit to the Union Territory. He is set to hold a meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Gor is likely to arrive in J&K by Wednesday afternoon. Alongside his scheduled meeting with Abdullah, he is also set to meet Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The US Ambassador is scheduled to leave for Ladakh on Thursday.

The US and Sergio Gor have been making headlines over President Donald Trump’s social media post, wherein he drew a parallel between India’s voting ID system with that of the US. Calling for the “Save America Act,” Gor echoed the sentiments of his President. After US President Donald Trump stepped up pressure on Congress to pass legislation that would require voters to provide proof of citizenship, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on Tuesday said the United States should have a voter ID requirement for people casting their ballots.

Speaking on the sidelines of his special address at the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) National Convention 2026, Gor, while citing India’s voter ID system as an example, said President Trump was clear about the need for voter identification in the United States.

“President Trump was very clear, and what India does, having a voter ID law, is something that we should pass in the United States,” Gor said, adding, “You had over 660 million people vote, by the way, less than 1 per cent by mail. I think it’s vitally important; voter ID is important. It’s not a partisan issue, and so the President is absolutely right that the United States should have a voter ID requirement when people show up to vote.”
