Elon Musk-owned X (formerly Twitter) will have to follow the law of the land on the social media platform’s new rule to make content takedown requests by any government public, a government official said on Monday, as quoted by news agency PTI.
“X will have to follow the law of the land,” the officer said when asked about X’s new rules.
Musk has said X (formerly Twitter) will make government requests to restrict or remove content more visible to users. Musk shared a new algorithm introduced in X, saying the new rules will make the government’s takedown request more visible to users.
“Any censorship required by the governments is now clearly visible,” Musk wrote on X.
What Changes Now That X Is Making Government Censorship Orders Public?
The policy is likely to involve ‘X’ informing users if a government entity has ordered it to trigger action against them with regard to content they have put up.
This will also involve identifying the department that sent the order as well as the legal edict or justification under which the mandate was sent.
This will not change a lot of things for users, but at least now they’ll know why their account or post got removed.
