What Is Self-Harm?
Self-harm refers to the deliberate act of injuring oneself, such as cutting, burning, hitting or engaging in other forms of self-inflicted injury. Contrary to a common misconception, it is not always a suicide attempt. Many people who self-harm describe it as a way to cope with overwhelming emotions, numbness, anxiety, shame, trauma or intense psychological pain.
