Renowned fighter Mateusz Gamrot, who is also known as the Gamer, enters his next UFC lightweight main event against Quillan Salkilld with confidence, experience, and a familiar goal: winning. The Polish veteran opened up about his preparation, his plans to take Salkilld into ‘deep water’ and his ambitions of eventually fighting for UFC gold in an exclusive interview with Times Now. However, Gamrot also had a special message for the Indian supporters, who have supported him since Salkilld defeated Anshul Jubli of India. “I love you, India,” Gamrot remarked, thanking the Indian fan base for their support and pledging to travel there someday.
‘I Love You, India’: Gamrot
Gamrot is fully aware that when he takes on Salkilld in the Octagon, some Indian MMA fans would support him. After Salkilld defeated Anshul Jubli, the Polish boxer was informed that Indian supporters had rallied behind him. He acknowledged the support.
“Thank you guys so much! I love you, India. One day I will come there for the vacation. Really appreciate for your support,” Gamrot told Times Now in an interview arranged by Sony Sports Network.
Gamrot promised an exciting fight and asked his Indian fans not to miss it.
“You can’t miss this fight because this gonna be really entertaining fight for fans and for watching this.”
Gamrot Wants To Take Salkilld Into ‘Deep Water’
Against the younger Salkilld, the seasoned lightweight anticipates that his conditioning and wrestling will be crucial. Given his background in UFC big events, Gamrot thinks the five-round format would be advantageous.
“I wanna bring him to deep water and drown him there, you know. But yeah, I am a sportsman, so for me, the most important is get the win and be victorious, you know, Saturday night. But of course, I prepare some tricks in the footwork and on the ground as well. So if I see the opportunity, then I can finish him. For sure, I will take it and I finish him on the ground, you know. So, but to be honest, like… domination to finish from the five round or finish him quickly or get the five rounds, the really high-paced fight… it doesn’t matter for me. The most important is get the victory, you know.”
But rather than being fixated on how the fight turns out, Gamrot maintained that he is ready to seize any chance that presents itself.
Eyes Set On UFC Gold
Gamrot stated that his goals go beyond Saturday’s bout, even though his immediate emphasis is on Salkilld. The veteran is still committed to winning the UFC lightweight championship in the future.
“My chasing dream never change, you know. Always my goal is the gold in the lightweight division.”
Gamrot noted that another one or two significant victories might still be necessary, but he feels that defeating a highly regarded prospect like Salkilld could put him closer to that goal.
“If I finish him, then I will be maybe next in the line, but maybe I need one more, maximum two fights—really big name—and then I will fight for the title.”
