Mumbai: A video allegedly showing a man firing into the air during a birthday party in Mumbai’s Gorai area has gone viral on social media, prompting police action.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of August 4 in Borivali West during the birthday celebration of a man identified as Akash Gupta.
According to the viral video, a man is seen firing into the air shortly after the birthday cake was cut. The video has raised concerns among local residents and led the police to begin an inquiry.
Borivali Police have detained three people for questioning in connection with the incident. During the preliminary investigation, police found that the object allegedly used in the incident was an air gun and not a firearm, officials said.
The police are now trying to establish when the video was recorded and what exactly happened during the birthday celebration.
Investigators are also verifying the identities and roles of those present at the party. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, police said. The incident comes amid concerns over celebratory firing at private events, which can pose a serious risk to people nearby even when the weapon involved is not a conventional firearm.
