Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Cachar, Rajat Pal said the girls initially stated that the accused had attempted to rape them before later alleging that they were sexually assaulted despite resisting. Since both victims claimed to be minors, the case was registered under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice system.
