Yemen’s civil war began in 2014, with the Houthis controlling the capital, Sanaa, and much of the country’s north, while the internationally recognized government controls much of the south. Although a UN-brokered truce in 2022 largely froze the conflict, fighting has intensified again after the Houthis resumed hostilities last month, ending the ceasefire.
