How the Dispute Began
The roots of this fight go back to March 2021, when Capital One notified the Trump Organization that it planned to close more than 300 accounts tied to the company. Four years later, in March 2025, the Trump Organization and Eric Trump filed suit in a Florida federal court, arguing the closures had nothing to do with banking policy and everything to do with what they described as Capital One’s woke beliefs, along with an alleged desire to capitalize on the political climate following the January 6, 2021 riot at the Capitol.
