gurugram man dies by suicide at home wife divorce demand, a child's video and a family crying murder

Gurugram: A 36-year-old man employed with a multinational company was found hanging at his residence in Gurugram’s Surat Nagar on Thursday, allegedly after his wife had sought a divorce, police said. The couple’s seven-year-old son recorded a video on his mobile phone after discovering his father, while his wife, Manpreet Kaur, can be heard in the footage screaming for someone to bring him down.

The deceased, Sanjeev Yadav, worked as an associate operator at a private firm in Manesar and was a native of Amritsar. He and Manpreet had a love marriage in April 2018, having met while working at the same company. Manpreet had quit her job after their son was born in 2019.

Family Suspects Foul Play, Police Probe Underway

Sanjeev’s sister Kiran alleged that a dispute had been ongoing between her brother and his wife, and that Manpreet’s demand for a divorce had ultimately led to his death. Their father Ramsevak Yadav said he suspected his daughter-in-law of conspiring with accomplices to kill his son, adding that a dispute had been going on between the couple for some time.

Kiran demanded a thorough probe, claiming her brother could not have committed suicide. She also pointed out that Sanjeev weighed more than 100 kg, calling the video of him hanging from a ceiling fan suspicious.

Acting on the family’s complaint, police have detained Manpreet and launched an investigation. Investigating officer Mahender Singh said they are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death and that action will be taken as per the law.
