According to the Andhra Pradesh government, the Bhogapuram Airport has been developed by GMR Group and is not merely as an infrastructure project, but as a transformational asset for the entire North Andhra region. It was conceived as a catalyst for industrial growth, employment generation, exports, skill development and research, the government said. The airport is expected to be developed to handle 40 million passengers annually and commercial operations are all set to begin from August 17.
