Exclusive: Arpita Mehta On Modern Brides, Indian Craft And Her India Couture Week Debut

Craft Became Everything!

For all its visual maximalism, Mehta was clear that CEREMONIAL was never meant to be nostalgia dressed up as newness. “I wanted each craft to retain its own identity,” she said, speaking about her use of Bandhani, Banarasi weaves and Kantha embroidery through the collection. “Kantha, for instance, has such a distinct rhythm and storytelling of its own. Rather than changing it to fit our aesthetic, we wanted to preserve that character while allowing it to sit naturally within our design language.”
