In the Delhi High Court this week, the government’s position on the wider allegations of police excess was that nobody had approached the police to register a case. Former Trinamool Congress MP Saket Gokhale then filed a complaint with the SHO, Parliament Street police station, seeking an FIR against Lamba under Sections 74, 115, 131 and 198 of the BNS, read with Section 3(5). The bench, hearing two petitions on the police action of July 20, has issued notice and ordered that CCTV footage and videography from that day be preserved.
