Wildfires driven by scorching temperatures, drought, and strong winds have continued to rage across parts of southern Europe and forced tens of thousands of people to flee their homes and holiday accommodations in France, Spain, and Italy. According to the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), the total area of land burned so far this year in European Union countries is the second largest on record. Temperatures have exceeded 40°C in several regions, with some parts of Spain reaching 44°C.
